Background: why FANZA is hard to buy from overseas

FANZA enforces region restrictions at two layers: an outer geo-block on the storefront/preview pages, and an inner restriction at checkout that rejects most foreign-issued credit cards. The block tightened in May 2024 after credit-card-network policy changes (FOSTA-era spillover plus Japan-specific issuer rules), and again incrementally through 2025.

Result today: many titles are completely invisible from a Taiwan or US IP, and even when reachable, the cart will reject Visa/Mastercard from non-Japan banks. JCB issued in Taiwan sometimes clears, sometimes does not, depending on the issuer and the title.

Method 1 — PayPal → DMM Points (recommended)

The single most reliable path. PayPal does not pass the issuer-region check the way a raw card does, so a Taiwan PayPal account funded by a Taiwan-issued card can purchase DMM Points, which are then spent on individual titles.

1. Top up DMM Points using PayPal (¥3,000 / ¥5,000 / ¥10,000 packs).
2. Switch payment method to "DMM Points" at checkout.
3. Purchase. The title appears in your library and streams normally over the VPN.

Recommended cards to attach to PayPal (in order of observed pass rate): 玉山 JCB > 華南 JCB > 永豐 JCB > major Visa cards.

Method 2 — Amazon Pay

Troubleshooting

• Card rejected: try PayPal first, JCB second. Visa/MC almost never clears from non-JP issuer.
• Title shown as region-locked even with VPN: some titles have a stricter inner block. Try a different VPN exit (NordVPN Tokyo, then Osaka).
• Past purchases not visible: log out, clear cookies, log back in over VPN. The library is account-bound, not IP-bound.
